Alarming and sudden leg swelling - 31/03/2009

Stephanie recently came into FGF with a very distressing situation, her lower legs and ankles had suddenly become very swollen, were extremely uncomfortable and had puffed up like a balloon. She had visited the doctors on 3 occasions only to be given pain killers!

On the first treatment she had her legs bandaged and immediately said how good it felt.

It turned out she had started running 3 weeks earlier training for a charity run and her thighs were extremely hard and felt stiff in the muscle tissue. This was not normal and it was her running combined with her lymphatic system unable to cope with the metabolic waste that was causing her lower legs to swell so much.

We advised stop running, used MLD massage to reduced the hardness of her thighs which allowed her lower legs to flow properly again.

Stephanie is having treatment and is so relieved that the swelling has reduced but miffed that there was no advice or help from her GP.

Sadly this is due to their lack of understanding of the lymphatic system and it`s effects when under pressure. If you or anyone you know suffers like this then please call 01273 441919, we will be happy to help.
